348 & 409 Forged Racing Pistons !
We always have of the most popular combinations in stock...
( IE, 348/409 crank .030", 409 .030", 409/427 crank .030"/.060", ect. )
Above is our very popular 10.5:1 348 piston for use with a 409 crank and big block Chevy ( 6.135" rods ). Provides 377+ cubic inches, depending on your bore size.
These are typical of the 10:1 compression pistons for 474-496 ( 4" stroke ) cubic inch engines.
Our most popular model... the 10.5:1 compression 409 with a 3.76" stroker crank ( 446-464 CID )
This is the 11:1 compression stock ( 3.5" ) stroke piston, all available in sizes up to .125" over. Note the maximum weight removal on the "inside" picture.
We
designed these pistons in 2003, and since that time, have been
progressively selling more and more... now being the piston of
choice by many of the established W engine builders ! They
incorporate our own design in the dome and valve relief and are
made exclusively for A Bruneau Performance Enterprises by Ross
Racing Pistons*... they are not available anywhere else !
I carefully studied various designs which have been used over the
years. I feel that we have come up with a combination that
employs the most effective features of past designs, with the
advantages of modern forging and machining techniques. The intake valve
relief has been cut at an angle to the exhaust valve ( also
serves as the exhaust valve relief ) as was the Jahns Power Slot.
This is done to enhance the intake signal during valve overlap...
the bigger the cam, the more effective it is.... BUT, unlike the
Jahns piston, the dome is machined flat and the oposite side of
the piston has the rounded outer belvelle ( as the original TRW
forging ) which offsets the side-load under combustion pressure This condition
is further remedied by the 4 degree taper from the dome to the top ring
land.
The pistons with 10 or 10.5:1 compression have a valve relief designed to accommodate net cam lift / duration up to .600"/260 deg. @ .050". The 11 or 11.5:1 models will accept any camshaft up to .700" lift and 270 duration @ .050". Pistons with 12:1 and over will accommodate ANY camshaft.
Intake valve relief in 348 piston is designed to accomodate the 2.06" intake valve. 409 pistons will accommodate the 2.20" intake valves.
They are full floating wrist pins ( which are included ) and unless specified otherwise, come standard with 1/16", 1/16", 3/16 rings... but ANY ring groove is available at no extra charge.
Also, a completely unique and exclusive design wrist pin height which brings the piston .004"-.008" ABOVE THE DECK of the engine block, which provides an ideal .032"-.035" piston to head clearnce in the "squish" area... vital to enhancing the burn characteristics of the air/fuel mixture. Bottom line, THESE WILL MAKE MORE POWER THAN PREVIOUS 348/409 PISTON DESIGNS ! Ideal for use with the newer Fel Pro or Victor composition head gaskets having an average compressed thickness of .042". These pistons CANNOT be used with the original style steel shim head gaskets ( but if you are fortunate enough to have a set, the pistons certainly may be ordered with the appropriate deck clearance ).
Weight is approximately 100 grams lighter than the original TRW/GM piston.

and OUR SPECIALTY.... CAMSHAFTS & VALVE TRAIN !
This is the part of your engine that will dictate what it "feels" like ! I have developed my own camshaft profile combinations in various models, from smooth idling BRAND NEW DESIGN with maximum fuel efficiency, to state of the art radical race mechanical profiles. These ARE designed by A Bruneau Performance Enterprises... and are not available anywhere else ! Custom manufactured for us by Competition Cams*.
Due to increased popularity of some of our products, we are now stocking a number of different cam profiles, along with valve springs, retainers, locks, roller rockers, ect. Shown here... centre, is our hydraulic cam and components. On the right is a complete steel billet mechanical roller cam, roller lifters, dual valve springs, Titanium retainers. and 1.7 ratio stainless small body roller rockers. These rockers are IDEAL for use with longer valves and pushrods, and will allow you to retain the stock valve covers without clearance issues.
Competition Cams* pushrods in 5/16" or 3/8"... available in stock length, up to +.150".

The above camshafts highlighted in "AQUA", are recommended for use with BBC 1.7 ratio roller rockers only. Actual gross lift will be reduced by appproximately .017" from above figures. Also, note that mechanical cams are rated for gross lift. Actual lift at the valve is reduced by the amount of valve lash... generally .020" - .026". Example, our part number: M-242592S, advertising a lift of .592", with the recommended 1.7 ratio rockers, after valve lash, will have a net lift at the valve, of .555". An important factor when selecting valve springs.
Our Mechanical ROLLER Profiles For use with .100" longer valves, engines using "small port" cylinder head castings such as "817", "147", "586", "379", "333" with a minimum of port and bowl work. Max RPM shown is based on average cubic inches in the 380 range ( 348 using 409 crank ). RPM limit will be slightly lower in larger cubic inch / stroker applications. All lift figures are based on the use of 1.7 ratio roller rockers.... actual net lift at valve, after lash, is reduced by approx .018"
