1957 Chevrolet Belair

Now with a 327 / 325+ HP, 3 speed standard

For my daughter, Charlotte, from right here in Alberta !

This car was given to Charlotte on here 18th birthday by my late brother Rodger ( March 17 1962 - February 14, 2005 )

After just aquiring a good running .030", balanced 1967 small journal 327 275HP, the engine was freshened up using a stout camshaft and an old Edelbrock C3B intake. It looks like Charlotte will be going a little faster than we originally planned ! 10:1 compression, , with the original 3 speed standard transmission. Rear gear will be 3.08, riding on whitewall tires on chrome wheels ( per Charlotte's request ). For the time being the body is just going to be cleaned, and the chrome and stainless re-installed. Door panels and rear seat are decent original, front seat MUST be recovered !... installing new carpet.

After a quick exterior wash. This original low mileage Canadian car from Manitoba is in absolutely remarkable condition !

A few views of the original floor... after a little vacuuming. Not a single rust hole !

And here we have.... GARBAGE ! The Chevrolet 235 6 cylinder engine. From it's conception in basic design in 1929, evolving from 208, 216, 235 cubic inches, it is truly a miracle in automotive history that anyone bought one of these things after 1955 ! INCREDIBLY heavy ( about 40-60 pounds heavier than a 283 ), they were so prone to connecting rod/bearing failure that it is a wonder that there are even any around any more ? ! Fortunately, this thing is out of the car now !

Here is the 1968 275HP 327 that is going in the car. We washed it up, painted and detailed orange, then installed using an orginal 1957 Chevy V8 bell housing.

Just after installing the 327 and getting her running. Had to locate a correct left exhaust manifold to support the generator bracket. Intake manifold is a very old ( around 1968 ) Edelbrock C3B, using the classic Holley p/n 4777 650 CFM double pump carburetor ! Should be around an even 300 horsepower.

These photos taken October 30, 2005. The traction bars were a must with the 3.70 gears that were in the car. Changed to 3.36's.
