1964 Chevrolet Impala SS
sport coupe 409 4 speed
This project is for my very good friend, Steve, from High Prairie, Alberta
Here for body restoration back to the original Tuxedo Black. Engine is going to recieive subtle internal enhancements !
These are very old photos of the car as it was purchased.
After stripping the layers of old paint and filler we found some "creative" body work had been done !
After looking after the metal work, all the welds were sealed with short strand fibre glass. Hammer and dolly work, and block sanding. Car was just about ready for the etching primer.
A few shots after the etching primer has been applied.
Next, we applied filler primer over the entire surface of the body. The exterior will be block sanded with a long board, then the procedure will be repeated. The firewall, door jambs, ect. will be ready for prep sanding.
First round of long board sanding... 120 grit.
After two rounds of long board work, using dark grey high-build primer, the basic body is now ready for prep sand and black paint !
After many hours, the doors have received their final long board work, and are ready for prep-sanding for paint.
The trunk lid was completely stripped to clean bare metal. It is in exceptional original condirion ! After some very minor putty an blocking, it was coated with etching primer. Then the dark grey high build primer, with a couple round with the long board.
Installed the doors to fit gaps.... looks pretty good !
